It was easy and simple to set up with the help of my 12 year old! It is quite heavy so make sure you have some help...it'll be easier.

It's a great workout. I do a lot of snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, road cycling, etc. and going on this for no less than 30 minutes at a speed of 2.8 mph ALWAYS makes me sweat. For the last few minutes I go up to 3 or 3.2 mph and then slow it down to get my heart rate down and start the cool down. I'm not doing the meal plan that came with it, just watching my caloric intake and doing at least 30 minutes on the TreadClimber 5 nights a week along with my other outdoor activities I already mentioned. I'm noticing a trimmer shape. A skinnier friend of mine can only use it for 15 minutes at 2.8 mph and she is sweating...she never sweats! I like the heart rate monitor and calories burned on it however to be totally honest, my watch heart rate monitor I find is more accurate in order to count calories burned. It is noisy so if you want to watch television with it you better have the volume up high. I wouldn't give my TreadClimber up...it's a great workout when I'm stuck indoors. Just hop on it for 30 minutes and I'm good--on a good day I can do longer. They say that it's not meant to be used for running, that the speed doesn't get up that high. Frankly I can put it up to almost its max and I'm going at a good trot. Not sure if it's good for it or not but if that's not running I don't know what is. I can only last 30+ seconds running. Keep in mind it's like you're running uphill...and when you're at the walking speed you're really walking uphill.

It's easy on the knees, hips and back. Like walking uphill in sand.

I am using it not only to lose weight but to get fit. My friend is saving up some $$ to buy her own. It is pricey and Bowflex could stand to lower the price a bit...the profit on it must be a huge margin.

But it is a good investment in your health!

    Comments about Bowflex TreadClimber TC5000:

    It was perfect after having a baby and C-section. I needed something that I could start out easy, then build into a higher intensity workout, lose weight, & build endurance. I had a newborn so I HAD to workout at home while she slept. This was PERFECT! I'd watch tv or listen to music while working out. This machine was better than I expected.

      Comments about Bowflex TreadClimber TC5000:

      This is one piece of equipment that when I get home, I just change into my workout clothes, put a favorite TV show on, hop on the machine and go for 30 minutes. It is very easy to use and I must admit I thought it might be boring like a treadmill but it is so much more. I can feel that more core is stronger without doing sit ups and such. I will admit at first I was completely winded when on it for 10 minutes but it did not take me long about 2 weeks to build up to going for 30 minutes without stopping. I love it, its worth every penny I spent, easy to use and my doctors are pleased that I am getting exercise to raise my good chloresterol and reduce my weight.

      This is a great piece of equipment; I love the size, and I really feel 'worked out' when I'm finished. The only problem is that the step counter doesn't work well, but I'm more interested in calories burned, so it's not a big deal to me.

      Myself, my wife and my son use the TC5000 each of us average using it 3 to 5 times per week.
      The TC5000 is a much better cardio/fat burner workout than a traditional treadmill.
      20 to 30 minutes on this machine is very good workout.
      The TC5000 is moderately noisy; probably no more than a treadmill.

          Comments about Bowflex TreadClimber TC5000:

          I decided to finally bite the bullet and purchase the Treadclimber TC5000. I have been wanting it for quite a while after seeing it on television commercials, but the price and some knee problems that I have held me back. So glad that I decided to try it with the money back guarantee and low impact workout. So far my knees not only are holding up they actually feel better after my workouts. Be sure you pay attention to the chart to determine how to calculate your workout level settings, because initially I had mine so wrong that I could barely walk and it wasn't even registering my steps. Love that it is a very challenging workout and takes up minimal space in comparison to a regular treadmill. The only reason I did not give this a 5 out of 5 stars is because of the price and disappointed that after watching the included dvd and seeing how it works in treadmill mode on a 10% incline, I could only get my treadies to lock on 0% incline. Call customer service and was told there is no incline in treadmill mode, told them they need to update their dvd.

              The speed is controlled via the console but you're correct that you have to get off the machine to adjust the amount of treadle movement. More treadle movement results in a more intense workout.

              It depends on your weight. Here are the calculations for various speeds. Note that these calculations do not apply if you lock the treadles into the treadmill position.

              @1 mph: 46 * (weight in lbs) * (time in minutes) / 126 = Calories Burned
              @1.5 mph: 5.4 * (weight in lbs) * (time in minutes) / 126 = Calories Burned
              @2 mph: 6.3 * (weight in lbs) * (time in minutes) / 126 = Calories Burned
              @2.5 mph: 7.4 * (weight in lbs) * (time in minutes) / 126 = Calories Burned
              @3 mph: 8.5 * (weight in lbs) * (time in minutes) / 126 = Calories Burned
              @3.5 mph: 9.9 * (weight in lbs) * (time in minutes) / 126 = Calories Burned
              @4 mph: 11.3 * (weight in lbs) * (time in minutes) / 126 = Calories Burned
